Product Features

Critical Illness (CI) Coverage

For the Multistage/Multipay feature on this plan, it basically pays only twice. As compared to most insurers out there which covers up to 900%, and considering the premiums are not as competitive for AIA, this makes the Beyond Critical Care quite an expensive plan. But this is because there is the premiums refund feature at age 85.

Covering only Advance stage, it pays out 200% in total. To cover for Early and Intermediate, you now need to add on the Early Critical Cover Extra rider.

Upon diagnosis for the first critical illness, 100% of sum assured will be paid out. The second payout will be subjected on the following:

  • A different critical illness from the first diagnosis (after 12 months from the first claim), OR
  • One of the 5 Rediagnosed or Recurred Critical Illnesses (after 24 months from the first claim)

Source: AIA

We highlight the CIs as well as the 5 Recurrent CIs below:

  • Early Stage CI – 32 (Till Age 75)
  • Intermediate Stage CI – 29 (Till Age 75)
  • Advance Stage CI – 43 (Till Age 85)
  • 12 Months Waiting Period for 2nd CI Claim
  • Maximum Sum Assured $350,000
  • 5 Rediagnosed CI Coverage (After 24 Months)
    • Major Cancer
    • Heart Attack
    • Stroke
    • Heart Valve Surgery
    • Bone Marrow Transplant

Premium Waiver

In the event of early to intermediate to advance stage CI, future premiums can be waived.

For your child’s premiums, their basic plan’s premiums will be waived to the 25th birthday should parents be:

  • Diagnosed with any of the covered CIs from early, intermediate or advance stage, or disabled or upon death, the Early Critical Protector Payor Benefit rider will waive future premiums
  • Diagnosed with any of the covered 42 advance stage CIs, be disabled or upon death, the Payor Benefit Comprehensive Special rider will waive future premiums

What we don’t like

  • Even though “Multipay CI” is being marketed, Early Stage for CIs can only be claimed once. The remaining claims are for late stage as well as death
  • Early/Intermediate CI Coverage Till Age 75 Only even though coverage till 85.
  • Only 2 Claims Allowed with a 12 Months Waiting Period in between claims.
  • For the older AIA plan, the full refunds are at age 75, while it is now 85 years old
  • Mental Illnesses has only 5 and it ends at age 85
  • Special Benefits Reduced to 5:
    1. Osteoporosis
    2. Diabetic Complications
    3. Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis
    4. Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever
    5. Mastectomy due to carcinoma in situ or malignant breast
